Silaev finally released in Spain – with his own words

Today I received the final decision of the National Court of Spain on my
case - the extradition request of the Russian police is rejected. What
surprised me well was that they added a profound explanation on their
decision - including parts very humiliating to the Russian side.
Not only they put a stress on the whole background of the Khimki case -
that "a recognized journalist, a founder of Russian antifascist movement,
which is currently threatened by the authorities for it's anti-governmental
position, had been unlawfully attributed a role of an organizer of the
insurgence" and "many people including journalists were detained,
threatened, physically abused and even tortured in order to procure
evidence against Silaev". What impressed me most is that the superior court
of Spain has reconsidered the attitude towards overall legitimacy of
application of the article 213 of Russian Penal Code ("Hooliganism") and
it's reference to the European law. It's said, that:
"According to the extradition request Silaev is accused under the article
"Hooliganizm" of Russian penal code. As it's seen in the documents provided
by the Russian side, the current application of the above article has no
reference to the Spanish law as Silaev is not accused of any actions, which
caused public disorder or harm to any property (corresponding articles of
Spanish Penal Code 557 and 263), but in mare participation in the
demonstration".
This is indeed a very compelling decision as it establishes a precedent on
the superior level of European juridical system. First time it's clearly
specified that the notorious article No 213, recently and perpetually
updated by Russian authorities, has no legal reference to the European law
(the same way as, to say, "blasphemy"). During past years the article
became widely known in Russia, as it has been constantly used as the main
instrument of political oppression against the oppositional movements,
aimed to practically ban all unwanted manifestations. Simply participating
in such demonstration, people are risking to be accused in a crime of a
"grave" class - which "Hooliganism" is - and face up to 7 years in prison.
Hope that the current decision of Audiencia Nacional could set a turning
point in the attitude towards such cases in future - and hope I didn't
loose 6 month for nothing!
All my sincere greetings to all compañeros, who've been helping and
encouraging me during that period - but I'll probably greet you in private
soon.
Pete Silaev aka DJ Stalingrad

37 year old Cheikh Ndiaye dies on metro track after being chased by municipal police in Athens

(source: http://blog.occupiedlondon.org/2013/02/02/37-year-old-cheikh-ndiaye-dies-on-metro-track-after-being-chased-by-municipal-police-in-athens/)

In the early hours (approximately 01:00) of February 2nd, Cheikh Ndiaye died on the metro tracks at the Thiseio stop of the ISAP line in Athens. Cheikh, a street vendor from Senegal, was being chased by municipal police when he landed in the tracks. It is still unclear whether he was pushed to his death or whether he lost his balance and fell.

Moments later, friends of Cheikh gathered at the point of his death only to be dispersed and chased by riot police who arrived at the spot. Meanwhile, as reported on Athens Indymedia, the metro carriages were playing an announcement that the metro route was being altered due to an “obstacle” in the tracks.

support refugees from syria

Wer den Krieg überleben will, muss flüchten.

[greece] Villa Amalias statement: we are, and we shall remain here.

(source: http://blog.occupiedlondon.org/2012/12/21/villa-amalias-statement-we-are-and-we-shall-remain-here/)

Today, on December 20th, 2012, the police raided Villa Amalias. Under the pretext of a complaint for drug dealing, they searched the building in the presence of a district attorney. Their findings are ludicrous. Nevertheless, according to Dendias [translators’ note: the minister of public order] these prove that Villa was an “epicentre for lawlessness” for 22 years and that the law, thanks to the “brave political will of [PM] Samaras” was finally restored. (source: http://bulgarianprisonersassociation.wordpress.com/2012/12/23/open-letter-regarding-florenzo-tandinis-case-15th-of-december-2012/)

Open letter to the Bulgarian Ministry of Justice, the Bulgarian Government and the European Society

From: Jock Palfreeman, Chairman of the Bulgarian Prisoners’ Rehabilitation Association

On the 15/12/2012 Florenzo Tandini, an Albanian citizen in 10th group Sofia Central Prison was arguing with another prisoner in their cell. There was no physical fighting, when about 8 guards with batons ran into the 10-A cell and stuck Florenzo Tandid on his left side of his face with a baton. Florenzo Tandini attempted to cover his face from the blows of all 8 guards who surrounded him and beat him to the ground repeatedly. All the strikes were to the face and back of the head which is apparent when looking at the documented wounds to his face and head. There are no other wounds to the rest of Florenzo’s body. There was no physical or verbal resistance form Florenzo towards the guards of Sofia Central Prison, either prior to their attack nor during or after. Continued…
